If you are using or are interested in using Twitter for social media marketing, theirs a new tool that I think you should know about.

The tool can be located in your Google Labs and is called Google Follow Finder, the purpose of the tool is to help you expand your Twitter network.

Now it was only recently launched by Google and is very much in the beta testing stage, however my first bit of experimenting with the tool has gone quite well and has allowed me to connect with more relevant tweeps.

This is obviously a good thing as it means I am able to send my messaging out to targeted and like minded individuals who in theory are likely to be more receptive to what I have to say.

It’s based on Twitter’s @anywhere platform and, like many similar tools out there, it analyzes your following / follower lists and compares them to the lists of people who follow many of the same accounts.

How To use Google Follow Finder

To get started, locate Google Follow Finder in Google labs and simply enter your Twitter account name and you’ll see a list of people you might be interested in following. You can also get interesting suggestions by entering other Twitter user names. Here’s what it looks like:

If you see someone you want to follow, just click “Follow on Twitter,” log in, and they’ll be added to your following list in Twitter.

The lists in Google Follow Finder are generated using public following and follower lists on Twitter. For example, if you follow BBC and the The Guardian on Twitter, and most people who follow the same also tend to follow The Financial Times, then the Google Follow Finder tool will also suggest The Financial Times as a “Tweep you might like.” The list of “Tweeps with similar followers” is simply a list of accounts with similar follower lists to yours.
